Handmade Yixing Teapots originate from the Yixing region east of China.  Yixing Teapots possess an astonishing history dating back to the Sung Dynasty (960-1279) when Purple Clay was first discovered.  They flourished and matured in the late Ming and Qing Dynasties.  (1573-1911) Artisans utilize Purple clay which contains natural minerals to create beautiful products of various forms and colors.  Yixing teapots were initially shipped to the West by the Dutch through the East India Trading Company in 1610.  They have maintained their unique reputation both in China and abroad.  They are renowned as the “best vessels for brewing” by Chinese tea aficionados.

Care and Use:

Yixing teapots have the unique ability to absorb the tea flavor with continued usage.  The fired clay contains tiny air pockets which provide insulation and enhanced taste and aroma of fine tea.

•Place one teaspoon of loose tea-leaves into pot, then fill with hot water and drain.

•Refill with hot water, let tea-leaves steep for one minute and enjoy.  (usually refill three times or more).

•To clean, empty tea-leaves and flush with hot water.
